Chrome tourmaline is a variety of tourmaline stone that may contain more or less chromium and vanadium, the elements responsible for its bright green to deep green color. It belongs to the type of mineral known as dravite, like brown and black tourmalines, while most tourmalines used in jewelry are of the elbaite type, with a different chemical composition.
Originating in East Africa, especially Tanzania and Kenya, but also in China, Brazil and Burma, this green stone was only identified in the mid-20th century.
Chromed tourmalines are not as rare as blue tourmalines, but they are still uncommon. More to the point, it's hard to find one of sufficient quality for jewelry. Moreover, specimens larger than 1 carat are fairly uncommon.
With Bonnot Paris, buy the best chromed tourmaline for your project and budget, with its laboratory certificate. Obtained without intermediaries, our gems have an exceptional level of quality and traceability, as well as a lower environmental impact.
Chromed tourmaline is not mined in the same regions of the world and does not have the same composition as green tourmaline or "verdelite" (elbaite). It is less widespread, less used in jewelry, more expensive (with a few exceptions) and less colorful. The colors are also more saturated than those of green tourmalines. In fact, chrome tourmalines look more like emeralds.

Recently discovered and rare, chrome tourmaline doesn't have the cultural or spiritual significance that other stones develop over the centuries. Nevertheless, it is sometimes associated with virtues such as prosperity, renewal and the development of self-confidence and self-esteem.
In lithotherapy, it is considered a healing stone, helping to restore joy after an ordeal or to rebalance emotions.
If you like dark gems with an intriguing charm, you should appreciate chrome tourmaline, with its extremely rare visible inclusions and vitreous luster. Its original beauty depends in part on the quality of the cut. It is often cut in cushion, round or oval shapes. It is almost never heated or treated.
Chrome tourmalines have recently become popular for pendants, earrings and rings. Tastes are not debatable, but when it comes to jewelry, professionals are looking for a clear green, possibly with bluish highlights, but not yellow. For a concrete example, the most prized chrome tourmalines can resemble tsavorite garnets (although they are a little harder and have more brilliance).
The affordable price of chrome tourmaline, compared with emerald and tsavorite, makes it an increasingly popular choice. This makes it possible to have a beautiful gem on a tight budget. Note, however, that large, good-quality chrome tourmalines can be expensive.
