Like other sapphires, pink sapphire belongs to the corundum family. It has a hardness of 9 out of 10 on the Mohs scale, making it particularly ideal for use in jewelry.
Pink sapphire can be heat-treated to reduce inclusions or increase color intensity. Heat treatment is a common practice in the gem industry, aimed at improving the stone's aesthetics. However, at Bonnot Paris, we value the natural beauty of pink sapphires and strive to offer stones whose color and clarity are as close as possible to their natural state, while offering options to suit all tastes and budgets.
Pure pink sapphires, without secondary color hues, are indeed rare. Often, these gems have secondary hues of violet or orange, which can influence their value and appeal. Pink sapphires with a tendency towards violet are common, while those with an orange hue are particularly sought-after and rare, making them all the more valuable.
Chromium is the key element that gives pink sapphire its characteristic color. In some cases, heat treatment can be applied to intensify this color. This treatment is common in the gem industry and, while it can improve the stone's appearance, it can also affect its value. Untreated pink sapphires, with their naturally intense color, are generally more valuable on the market.
At Bonnot Paris, we understand the importance of purity and authenticity of color in pink sapphires. We are committed to providing our customers with stones of the highest quality, with complete transparency about their processing and provenance, ensuring that every pink sapphire we offer is not only beautiful, but also ethical and sustainable.

Pink sapphire is a highly prized gem, its rarity and high demand making it a stone of great value. The price of this gem varies considerably according to the intensity of its color, clarity, weight and treatment. As with most other gems, its price increases exponentially with its weight.
For a good-quality, unheated pink sapphire of around 2 carats, the price is between €2,200/ct and €3,000/ct. The price per carat will be lower if the stone has been heated or has a second color, such as a violet tint.
Pink sapphires of exceptional quality can fetch thousands of dollars per carat. In 2022, at an auction organized by Sotheby's, a record price per carat was achieved at $90,000/ct.
