- Pink spinel is easily confused with pink tourmaline.

- Green spinel is less sought-after than more traditional jewelry colors.
In addition to its unique creations, maison Bonnot offersspinel among other precious and semi-precious stones. Very rarely heated, spinel may contain small inclusions, giving it a certain charm that can be appreciated by connoisseurs.
Nevertheless, the most coveted spinels are particularly pure and clear, possessing a vitreous luster that lends a beautiful natural brilliance. Note that this can be accentuated by precision cutting.
The price of spinel per carat depends on the number of carats and other factors, of course, such as the quality of the stone and, sometimes, its origin. As a general rule, the price of red spinel is the highest. It remains more affordable than ruby.
Blue spinel, especially cobalt-blue spinel, can be very expensive, as can Mahenge spinel. With obvious exceptions, the most affordable prices are for black and gray spinel .
Compared to gemstones, spinel is certainly more attractively priced, while offering superb quality and generous volume for jewelry creation: €1,000 for 3 carats, €1,500 for 5 carats...However, with varieties growing in popularity, or particularly exceptional, prices for some spinels can be quite high, for example, over €5,000 for 2 carats, over €10,000 for 2.5 carats...
Spinel is a very hard gemstone (8 on the Mohs scale), known for its resistance to shocks and scratches. It comes in a variety of colors. The best-known is red spinelwhich can bear a striking resemblance to ruby. Several famous rubies have in fact turned out to be spinels, such as the Timur Ruby and the Black Prince Ruby, British crown jewels.
Recently, black spinel rings and, more generally, black spinel jewelry, have become trendy. Spinel has been used to create jewelry for millennia, but without necessarily knowing it.
How do yourecognize a spinel ? Before 1783, it had long been confused with other stones and could easily be mistaken! It's highly advisable to consult a professional. The maison Bonnot can create your spinel engagement ring, but also authenticate a gem. Please note that all our stones are certified by a laboratory.
Spinel is mined in Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Vietnam and Tanzania, among other countries. Traditionally a symbol of courage, the stone is said to have benefits against stress and negative thoughts (according to lithotherapy).
