Our Precious Stone Sourcing
At Bonnot Paris, we are committed to providing the best precious stones through rigorous and ethical sourcing.
We have developed three main sourcing methods to guarantee the quality and traceability of our gems: directly from mines, via brokers and from renowned cutting centers. See our detailed methods below.
Directly to the mine
We prefer direct partnerships with mines, which allows us to obtain raw gemstones directly from the source.
Our partnerships extend across the world, especially in Africa (Namibia, Mozambique, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya), Vietnam and Sri Lanka. By carefully selecting the gems according to their quality, we then have them cut by our workshops in France and Bangkok, thus ensuring total control over the transformation process.
With local brokers
Our collaborations with international brokers allow us to acquire precious stones over a wide geographical area.
These brokers, based in Africa, Brazil, Colombia, and Vietnam, travel across vast territories to source gems that meet our strict criteria of quality, traceability and price. The rough stones purchased are then cut in our specialized workshops in France and Bangkok.
From the main size centers
We have offices strategically located in Jaipur, Bangkok and Beruwala (Sri Lanka).
These centers allow us to buy precious stones that have already been cut, such as emeralds from Zambia in Jaipur or sapphires and other various gems in Sri Lanka and Bangkok. Thanks to these offices, we can respond precisely to the specific requests of our customers by offering a wide range of high-quality stones.
More competitive prices
These three levels of sourcing allow us to offer you the best precious stones at the best price, while guaranteeing their origin and their exceptional quality.
We are committed to maintaining these standards in order to continue to satisfy our most demanding customers.
From Dealer Dealers
The vast majority of traditional jewelers use dealer retailers in their country to buy their stone.
The result is a limited choice of products and especially prices that are very far from market prices.
At the jeweler
Once again, the majority of jewelers tend to favor the sale of their own stones to the detriment of customer desires.
By offering only a limited choice, the jeweler inevitably guides a choice. At Bonnot Paris, it is the customer who chooses and we source the ideal stone for his needs.
Certification and Ethics: Our Commitments
Certification and ethics are essential pillars of Maison Bonnot Paris. Each stone we offer is certified by renowned independent laboratories, such as GIA, AIGS, ICA, LFG and SSEF.
This guarantees the authenticity and quality of our gems. In addition, we are proud to know the origin of the majority of the stones we offer.
Many come from brokers located in extraction areas that we know well, thus ensuring impeccable traceability and ethics.
While ethics is at the heart of our commitment, we recognize that much work remains to be done in this area.
We are determined to continue our efforts to ensure that each stone is sourced responsibly and ethically.
Certification by partner laboratories
At Bonnot Paris, each precious stone goes through our certification laboratory.
Thanks to rigorous analyses and state-of-the-art equipment, we guarantee the authenticity, purity and quality of our gems. Each stone is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by our experts, ensuring our customers total transparency and absolute confidence in their investment.
Our Responsible Commitment
For ethical gemstones and transparent sourcing
At Bonnot Paris, we are committed to promoting responsible and transparent practices in the colored stone market, a mainly artisanal sector where it is often difficult to trace the exact origin of the stones. Recognizing this challenge, we do everything we can to ensure the ethical origin of our precious stones, respecting the commitments and rules of responsibility set by the OECD.
We make it a point of honor not to source stones from politically dangerous areas, such as Ethiopia and Burma. By collaborating with the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM), we support artisanal mining cooperatives in improving their working practices and conditions. Although we cannot guarantee 100% responsibility for all our stones, our proximity to the mines allows us to considerably reduce the risk of errors compared to actors far from the extraction sites.
In addition, we reinvest 1% of our turnover from the sale of precious stones in development programs in partnership with ARM. This commitment allows us to contribute directly to the improvement of living and working conditions in artisanal mining communities.
At Bonnot Paris, we firmly believe that transparency and responsibility are essential to offer our customers exceptional jewelry while respecting solid ethical values.
The Traceability of Our Precious Stones
Transparency and Accuracy at Every Step
At Bonnot Paris, traceability is at the heart of our commitment to our customers. The more accurate information we get and the sooner we intervene in the value chain, the more we can guarantee the traceability of our precious stones. Working directly with mines allows us to certify the exact origin of the stones, a crucial step in ensuring their authenticity and origin.
For example, for a tourmaline, we are committed to providing accurate information about its origin, specifying not only the country but also the region of extraction. Whether it is a tourmaline from Tanzania, Brazil, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria or Mozambique, we strive to give the most accurate location possible.
When we work with brokers, we make sure to obtain and transmit this detailed information to our customers. In addition, when we buy in the main cutting centers, we systematically require information on the origin of the stones and we carefully select our partners in order to eliminate any ambiguity concerning the origin of our stones.
For some stones, we use certification laboratories to confirm their origin. This process is a common practice at Bonnot Paris. Sometimes, we provide additional evidence to laboratories to correct and refine their traceability models, thanks to our extensive knowledge and our own field investigations.
Our aim is to always offer as much information as possible to our customers in a transparent manner. The rigorous traceability of our precious stones not only ensures their authenticity, but also reinforces the trust and satisfaction of our customers.
At Bonnot Paris, we firmly believe that transparency and precision are essential to offer exceptional jewelry and solid guarantees on their origin.
ICA member
Maison Bonnot is the only French jewelry house that is a member of the International Association of Dealers in Colored Stones (ICA), testifying to our expertise and commitment to colored stones.
This affiliation allows us to establish lasting relationships with our suppliers, lapidaries and workshops, thus guaranteeing an irreproachable quality of stone.
- provenant de mines où les travailleurs sont bien traités, décemment rémunérés et exercent en sécurité ;
- dont l’extraction entraîne un impact minimal sur l’environnement ;
- qui ne sont pas liées au financement de conflits armés ou de groupes terroristes.
