Sri Lanka is one of the world's leading sapphire producers. The stone is sometimes called Ceylon sapphire, as Sri Lanka bore this name until the 1970s.
The capital Colombo is the focal point of Sri Lanka's sapphire trade. In the south of the island, Ratnapura, which means "city of precious stones", is home to a famous gem market. Sapphire mining in Sri Lanka dates back thousands of years. Many other precious and fine stones are extracted from mines throughout the country.
La maison Bonnot is a jeweler and gem trader without intermediaries. You can choose a sapphire from Sri Lanka at a fair price that matches exactly what you like, to have the personalized ring of your dreams made and wear an exceptional sapphire jewel.
You can find a particularly intense light blue or royal blue Ceylon sapphire, beautiful violet-tinted blue sapphires, a blue-gray sapphire, and the rare orange and pink sapphire called Padparadscha. There's also the Sri Lankan pink sapphire, which comes in various shades, from the lightest to the brightest, as well as mauve and violet. Sri Lankan yellow sapphire has an exceptional color. This gemstone is known for being blue, but in addition to all these varieties, it can also be tinted green.
When you choose a Sri Lankan sapphire from maison Bonnot, you always know whether it has been heated or not. Heating sapphires enhances the stones, for example, by intensifying their color. Heated sapphires are not "treated" sapphires. Heating is a traditional technique widely used in the jewelry world. Other treatments are less accepted and may affect the value of the stones. They must be reported.
If you're dreaming of a sapphire engagement ring, the Ceylon gemstone is an excellent choice, given its quality and the variety of colors it can offer. Sri Lanka's sapphire industry is highly regarded for its expertise, mastery of artisanal techniques and transparency. Many gemmological experts and jewellers around the world prefer to buy sapphires in Sri Lanka.
Ceylon sapphires are priced according to a number of criteria, the most important of which are purity and clarity. The most precious sapphires are uniform and have few or no inclusions or impurities visible to the naked eye, with the exception of Sri Lankan star sapphires. This is a beautiful optical effect, creating a six-pointed star thanks to inclusions.
Browse our site to find out more about the price of a Ceylon sapphire for a unique creation, taking into account other criteria such as, of course, carat weight, the shape in which the stone was
cut and origin. Add to this the law of supply and demand, which can cause sapphire prices to fluctuate: some colors become trendy, while others are less sought-after.
